Avaya - AVAYA MSL and MSG UPDATE

2/28/2002

Representatives from the CWA met with Avaya Labor Relations on Thursday, February 21st, to discuss both the closing of the MSG in Houston, TX, as well as the closing of the MSL’s.

Avaya is insistent on continuing with their ill thought out plan. We have made every effort to point out to them how this will affect customer service; thwart the technician’s ability to service the customer and meet commitment dates. Apparently Avaya is no more interested in the customer than they do with their employees.

The MSG is closing on schedule. Those affected employees will have the right to transfer to Little Rock, Arkansas, with their work, if they so choose. We have had Theresa Inman from the Employee Resource Center work with everyone to make sure they are aware of their contractual entitlements with regard to the LCTOP options. If you have additional questions on the LCTOP options, please contact Theresa at
720-444-5273.

As to the MSLs, CWA has an agreement with Avaya that there will be no lay offs for the life of the contract. What this means is although they are closing all of the MSLs, they cannot lay anyone off. Avaya has told us they will place all of the people from the MSL’s into the Service organization. Of course they aren’t sure what you will be doing, but they are sure it will be something productive.

Once again the arrogance and incompetence of management is astounding. Every alternative we offered was rejected in favor of “their plan”. Avaya has joined the ranks of the likes of Lucent. Clearly they are cut from the same management cloth. We will keep you posted as we receive more innovative and creative plans from Avaya.

In Unity,
Mary Jo Sherman
CWA Representative
